Skipping

I'm going to skip talking about Jesus Camp and United 93, not because I don't like them, they're very, very good films, but simply because so many others have put it better than I can.

Trailers for the above can be seen here and here, and even though I've blogged them before, no one said anything nice, so you're gonna get the repeat treatment. Nyer.

Queer Ranter and I (and my brother, yes Nicholas I'm looking at you) watched both films at my house until the wee hours of the morning, and it was a shame we didn't have time to watch Munich to round it out. He called it a social virus, but he's been reading Richard Dawkins, and I can't blame the poor man.

I'm not as anti fundamental, although I am fervently agnostic, but I can see the comfort and appeal in living your entire life knowing that you are absolutely 100% right, and nothing, no force on earth, can prove you wrong. It must be a very happy prospect. Science is built on fact checking, on peer testing, on strenuously disproving as much as possible about a theory, like chipping away the false parts of the marble that contains the statue of truth. Once all the outer crap is gone, what remains must of course be nothing less than the touch of the hand of God.

Quake Wars (if you will refer to the sheet below) is a team-based multiplayer shooter. I nearly put tactical into that sentence because it's got classes, but I caught myself. It does have classes; soldiers, medics, engineers, who use different weapons, play different roles, and have all sorts of fun abilities. Currently my favorite is Field Ops, who can requisition artillery pieces to the battlefield and with laser targeter in hand, bring hard rain down upon the enemy, akin to the hand of God smiting the non-believers with His will.

Then, after I'm done, the grunts can swarm in and mop up. I'll follow, rifle in hand, until of course some sneaky bugger gets up behind me and blows my lungs out with a nailgun. I could of course prevent this from happening by hopping into a tank, but seeing as my 2nd favorite class is Rocket Soldier, I know precisely how vulnerable these armored fiends are, especially if you're willing to be smart and wait for them to fire their countermeasures BEFORE launching, heh heh heh.

Check out how spiffy this game looks. It runs really well too, it's got really low system requirements given its awesomeness. I found a great server hosted in Singapore (Fragnetics if anyone wants to come join me) and it's a fantastic way to avoid studying for my exam tomorrow. Wheee
