The shoot!
I woke up at 5:30 and took a cab (FORTY DOLLARS!!! Luckily my boss covered it) to 1 Utama. That place is damn lonely before hours. All the mannequins (especially the lingerie ones) look so sinister and creepy in the dark.
At 7 the crew started arriving, and the location opened for us to start planning. I spent some time trying on my wardrobe (fit like a glove. Such nice clothes to wear) and spent some time having the makeup girl, who had the biggest brown eyes I've ever seen, and was extremely sweet, making me look presentable for once in my miserable life.
Shooting proper began at 9:30, we did some establishing scenes and took dialogue from the main characters (not me). At about 10:30 I returned to Cat (Makeup girl) to spend half an hour having my face bashed in.
I wish I had a photo to show you guys. Curse my non-camera enabled phone! Basically, I was bruised up, my cheek puffed, cuts added to my lip and my nose bloodied, in a manner so realistic that all of the crew members immediately took their phones and took pictures with me, usually in a pose where one of them has just sucker punched me.
The sacrifices we make for our art.
Then we filmed my one line, cleaned all the makeup off, and spent three hours filming my action scene. I ran a lot.
Break for lunch, we had food at Dragon-I, which serves fantastic Chinese food. I'm very picky about chinese food, and this stuff was top-notch. Xiao Lung Bao, which is dumplings filled with soup and pork, absolutely delicious. Chilli'd chicken? Yum! Tomato & Cucumber Garoupa? Mouth-watering.
Drove to Avenue K for next location. Napped in car. Began shooting once crew arrived with equipment. I ran a lot. I mean a lot. One scene required me to run up 4 escalators. If ever you desire to find yourself in a position where you have no breath at all, and indeed feel like collapsing onto the escalator stairs, I suggest you try it.
Actually I don't. Those damn stairs are sharp.
Insert more running.
Then I filmed the Fall.
Three crew members held a pile of mattresses about a foot thick on the ground, and another held a boom mike. My task: To fall, face first, tripping myself and not bending my knees. (try this. Fall onto any soft surface at floor height from a running start, without bending your knees. No diving, that's cheating. Both feet firmly on floor, touching each other. See how many tries it takes you to get it right; I took 23)
Then more lying face down on floor to record my 2nd line of dialogue. Wrap at 11. Cue train home, and blog post.
