A British schoolteacher at Unity High School in the Sudan named Gillian Gibbons has been sent to prison, and will be deported for 'insulting religion, inciting hatred and showing contempt for religious beliefs.'
Her school responded by saying "[we] offer an official apology to the students and their families and all Muslims for what came from an individual initiative." It said Gibbons had been "removed from her work at the school."
The Sudanese Foreign Ministry responded that the case was: "isolated despite our condemnation and rejection of it."
Sudan's top clerics said in a statement Wednesday that the full measure of the law should be applied against Gibbons, calling the incident part of a broader Western "plot" against Islam.
The crime was naming the class teddy bear Muhammad.
The class voted for the bear to be named after one of the boys in the class, and protesters are decrying Gibbons: 'no mercy - execution' 'Kill her, kill her by firing squad'

Interesting... Stupid people! Put that stupid kid in front of the firing squad. See what the bugger feels...
It is an interesting situation, isn't it? Especially since she didn't even think of the PROPHET per se, but a student of hers.
So it's wrong to have any sort of inanimate object represent Muhammad, as it is to have a movie based on him and use actual people to play him. And yet it's alright to have people named after him...
